Students are provided with a range of facilities at Nazarbayev University.

Security and maintenance.“University Service Management” focuses on various directions: protection from emergencies, criminal and other kinds of negative displays, control of enforcement, regular evacuation training and action in case of emergencies. 24-four security and dispatching service is provided within the University campus. There is video surveillance in every block and the guards provide security.

Dormitory. Students are provided with comfortable housing and a high level of service. Students dormitory is located within the campus, the cosy rooms are equipped with all required conveniences. There are free Wi-Fi, washing machines and refrigerators on every floor of all the blocks. There are special rooms for the students’ independent work.

Rest. The 1st and the 2nd floors of the dormitory are designated for active rest of the students. They have an opportunity to watch TV, DVD, play the piano, dance in the recreation room, and play ping-pong.

Sports. There are open-door sport grounds in the around area to play football, volleyball in summer and hockey or skating in wintertime.

Medical service. The doctor’s office and a small hospital are located in the dormitory.

Refectory. The refectory is equipped with modern kitchen equipment. Every day the professional chefs cook fresh dishes from natural and qualitative products. The variety of dishes is regularly updated, which allows creating a useful food ration consisting of various and tasty dishes. Students have four free meals in a large hall for 1,000 seats.

Library service. The University has a modern library which is open every day until late evening. Every week the library collection grows by thousands of new materials, including books, CDs, periodicals and reference materials. The Library has also subscribed to a number ofelectronic resources. The NU Library purchases study materials based on recommendations from faculty members. Most materials added to the library collection are from Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Pearson, McMillan, McGraw-Hill and other authoritative publishers.

Subject Librarians are principal contacts for academic departments and research centers. Librarians support research, teaching and learning with the following services:
– Individual research consultations
– Orientations for new graduate students, faculty and researchers
– Instruction sessions and guest lectures at School classes (Embedded librarianship sessions);
– Collection building, textbooks and reference materials order
– Assistance with citation management tools
– Consultations for copyright and scholarly communication
– Facilitating connections with additional campus support

 

Each student has a personal support for different situations.

School Office assists students in the academic issues. Students apply to the Office with their queries regarding the study process and personal requests.IT supports the educational mission of the institution, maintains accurate, permanent, confidential students academic records, co-ordinates the School Admissions process, co-ordinates the Course scheduling process, co-ordinates students’ registration process, provides administrative support to deliver students’ examinations in accordance with quality assurance processes, co-ordinates and monitors the grades submission processco-ordinates and monitors students attendance process, tracks Students academic progress, monitors NU and School academic policies and procedures.

Personal advisers. Advisers are the first point of contact if the student experience personal difficulties that affect their work. The advisers write references for student, listen and try to help with problems or refer the student to someone who can. Adviser offers advice about additional learning needs e.g. a study skills course. The adviser may get information on his/her own initiative, may be informed of problems by the School Office or may learn from students themselves. The adviser has access to files of students assigned to him/her at all times. The student advisor may identify personal, mental of health problems of students. In these cases the matter is to be brought to the attention of the School Office. The School Office will then seek professional help as from Student Affairs, or the NU Counsellors.

Department of Student Affairs is a dynamic frontline unit that is tasked with development and implementation of strategic policies related to student life, assistance with Student Government and Organizations’ activities, and day to day management of Student Affairs in close cooperation with University and School administrations. DSA staff works hand-in-hand with faculty and students in fostering diverse extra-curricular programming in intellectual leadership, athletics, and performing and fine arts.

Student counselling offers assistance on any personal problems, whether specifically related to study or not. Counsellors enable students to make the most of the opportunities offered at Nazarbayev University by helping them cope with problems or difficulties of a personal or emotional nature. All help is offered strictly in confidence.

Career and advising center is a resource for all students who are seeking information on choosing a major, developing a career plan, finding an internship or a job, exploring graduate school opportunities and transitioning from academia to a career. The cener has its website: cac.nu.edu.kz.
